Mini Easter Haul

I haven't really gone shopping this past month - damn university that drains all my time! I did manage to squeeze in a small grocery trip and bought some stuff. //

1.  Herbal Essences Paralísalos Conditioner. I looked in the USA website and found that they didn't really have something like it - it's a conditioner that supposedly makes your hair straighter. I haven't tried it yet, but if I notice a difference I'll let you know! //

2. Essence Eyebrow Designer in 02. Brown. I've always had pretty full eyebrows, but for some reason they've kinda lost some hairs at the ends, so I bought this to fill them in. It's a bit lighter than my eyebrows, but once you blend it in you don't really notice a difference. //

3. Cala Aloe Vera Makeup Cleansing Tissues. I needed some makeup wipes, and these were the cheapest ones. And that's about all the thought that went into buying these, haha.//

4. Growth Spurt Nail Treatment. I was actually looking for the OPI version of this, but it was too damn expensive (nearly 20 US dollars), so I settled for this one. According to the saleslady it's really good, so we'll see! //

5. Essence Eye Makeup Remover. This claims to take off waterproof mascara without tugging, but I still haven't tried it, as I'm still trying to finish my Neutrogena Waterproof Makeup Remover (which is terrible!). //
6. And last, but certainly not least, Carezza Mini Eggs. These are SO GOOD! They have a soft chocolate with almonds interior that's really decadent. I bought a tray for myself (ehehe) and another for my nephews. //

And that's about it! What have you bought recently? //
Y eso sería! Qué han comprado recientemente?

Street Style Icon: Emma Watson

Ever since I was 7 and watched the first Harry Potter movie, I've always looked up to Emma Watson, specially style-wise. While I'll be the first to say that sometimes I don't like her red carpet choices, her street style is another matter altogether! I love how comfy yet chic and put-together she looks every time. Here are some of my favorite outfits of her: //

Favorite Books

Sorry I haven't posted in so long! Teachers at uni are seriously going crazy giving us stuff to read! Anyways, this is a requested post by the lovely Maria from Blindly Beautiful! I won't include the obvious ones (Harry Potter, The Hunger Games, The Chronicles of Narnia, etc), so this list won't be so long. //

1. The Arthur Trilogy by Kevin Crossley-Holland. I really haven't seen a lot of people talking about this series - I actually spotted the cover of "The Seeing Stone" (the first book) in a bookstore and thought the cover and the summary looked/sounded interesting. Arthur de Caldicot is a young boy living in Wales during A.D. 1199 and 1200, who can see the life of King Arthur through a "seeing stone" that Merlin gave him. There are three books in this series, all told from Arthur's point of view. For me, I know a book is a favorite when I want to re-read it - and I think I've read the series two or three times now. Overall it's a really good series that doesn't really have any boring moments. //

2. The Mortal Instruments Series by Cassandra Clare (I'm missing the first two because I lent them to a friend). A very popular YA series that will be turned into a movie soon. Clary Fray was a normal teenager living in New York, until she witnesses a murder that only she can see at Pandemonium nightclub one night. It sounds really dramatic when you just say that and don't explain the rest, but I guess that's made to encourage people to read it, no? A friend of mine insisted that I should read them, and from the first one I was hooked! The first three books are the best ones (you can actually tell that Cassandra Clare had intended on the series to end there), but I've got to make a special mention to City of Lost Souls for its humor. //

3. Percy Jackson & the Olympians Series by Rick Riordan. Most people know this series because of the movie that came out a few years ago - I liked it, but the books are so much better! The basic premise is that Percy finds out he is a demigod (son of Poseidon), and there's a prophecy in each book that sends him off in a different adventure. I really loved to see how the relationship between Annabeth and Percy played out, they're so cute! //

4. The Other Boleyn Girl by Philippa Gregory. I can honestly say that I love this book. I've read it countless times and it still never gets old. Set in the court of Henry the Eighth, the book sees the demise of Catherine of Aragon and the rise and eventual fall of Anne Boleyn, all through the eyes of Mary Boleyn (Anne's sister). They made a movie a few years ago, and this is the perfect opportunity to use the phrase 'Don't judge a book by it's movie'! Having loved the book so much I was really disappointed by the movie - it's nothing like the book!//

5. 100 Years of Solitude by Gabriel García Márquez. I had to read this book when I was in school, and I think it's safe to say that I was the only one that actually finished it. Telling the story of the Buendía family along its many generations, it can get tricky remembering who's who (nearly every character is either named Aureliano, José Arcadio or Amaranta), so I would recommend looking up the family tree on Google and glance at it every time you get confused (which will be a lot). //

6. The House of Spirits by Isabel Allende. Another Latin American novel, this one by a Chilean writer! The House of Spirits also tells the story of a family and its many generations. It goes through the different political periods in Chile from the point of view of the Trueba family. It kind of goes along in the same magical realism as One Hundred Years of Solitude (I guess I really like the genre, ha), but of course, set in Chile. It's also considered one of the great Latinamerican classics, so it can't be recommended enough! //

So there you go! Those are my favorite books. Hope you liked this post :)

5 Things #1

Don't forget to follow me on Bloglovin'!

Follow on Bloglovin

The other day I was browsing Tumblr and found this cool 5 Things Meme. I tweaked it out a bit for it to fit my blog better. So without further ado, here's the first one: //

5 Things That Make Me Happy

1. Charlie Brown - Coldplay

I don't know why, but every time I listen to this song it makes me happy. The start of it just makes me think of a happy place, even thought I still don't know what exactly it reminds me of. //

2.  Reading old stories I wrote with friends.

I've always had friends that love to write as much as I do, and it inevitably ends up with us making up various scenarios with some poorly concealed characters that are basically us, just with other names. //

3. Spending time with my nephew.

He's such a cute little kid! Between the fact that I'm generally really busy with university and that my sister lives kind of far away, I don't really see them that much. He's what I consider my first actual nephew - I grew up in the same house as the other one, so we act more like brother and sister. //

4. Passing university courses.
I don't think you truly appreciate when you're in school how easy is to pass classes. When you reach uni there's always a class each semester that you're hanging by a thread until the very end. You can tell it's the end of the semester in my house because I scream like a madwoman every time I get the email that says I passed. //

5. Getting new books.

I've been an avid reader ever since I was eight, and even thought Spanish is my mother tongue, I prefer to read in English. Needless to say, living in Chile makes it hard for me to find books that I actually want to read and that don't cost a fortune. Luckily, I found that Amazon doesn't overcharge in shipping (for books at least) so I went a little crazy and bought lots of books the first few months. Now I only buy one every month or so, so I get happy whenever the mailman comes with my new purchase! //

1.  One character who likes to cook // Un personaje al que le guste cocinar
I'm going to go with Sunny Baudelaire from A Series of Unfortunate Events, as she became quite a cook in the last few books - although I don't know how much she would add to the conversation. //

2.  One character who has money to fund the party // Un personaje que tenga dinero para pagar por la fiesta
Blair Waldorf from the Gossip Girl series, even thought she would probably not eat anything, she still knows how to throw a party! //

3.  One character who might cause a scene // Un personaje que pueda hacer un escándalo

No sé!

4.  One character who is funny/amusing // Un personaje que es divertido
Magnus Bane from the Mortal Instruments. He became one of my favorite characters in City of Lost Souls. I was dying of laughter with all of his comments throughout the book. But I was sad that he broke up with Alec :( //

5.  One character who is super social/popular // Un personaje que es muy social/popular
Serena Van der Woodsen, just because I couldn't really think of anyone else (although Blair could see her name on the list and decide to not pay for the party). //

6.  One villain // Un villano
Damon Salvatore from the Vampire Diaries. I only read the first two books, so I don't really know if Damon redeemed himself or not like in the TV show, so for me he's still a villain! //

7.  One couple (doesn't have to be romantic) // Una pareja (no tiene que ser romántica)
Jace Wayland/Lightwood/Herondale and Simon Lewis from the Mortal Instruments. They're both so sassy! I fell from my chair laughing reading their scenes together in City of Fallen Angels. //

Hermione Granger. Harry Potter was a huge part of my life and I always felt identified and looked up to her, so she'd definitely be invited to the party! //

What's in my University Bag?

After a relaxing summer it's time to go back to responsibilities! I went back to university this Wednesday, for what is going to be my third year as a business student, and I thought it would be fun to do a what's in my bag, university edition!

First things first - this is the bag I use, and it doesn't photograph very well. I like it because it can fit a lot, and has a few different compartments. It also has two pockets at the side where I carry a bottle of water and my iPod and cellphone in the other.

What I carry in the main compartment: A notebook (I use one for all of my classes), my Via Uno wallet that's looking a bit worse for wear and that I should really change, and my plastic pencil case that a friend gave me as a gift. I also carry lots of food - I get hungry quite a lot!

In the other compartments I keep the small stuff - my sunglasses from Zara, my car keys, a small mirror that broke off an old bronzer I had, two packs of tissues because I'm kinda sick, my Nivea SOS hand cream, headphones, eye drops (because I wear contact lenses), a bobby pin and hair tie, a medicated lip treatment (my lips get extremely dry every few hours), and last but not least, three lip glosses - the Essence Stay with Me Longlasting Lipgloss in a color that doesn't say, but assume is Candy Bar based on the website; an Ésika clear lip gloss; and an Oriflame Mood Lip Gloss in Happy Glow.

What kind of bag do you use for university/school?

February Favorites

I swear, February went by so fast! Those days less really make a difference. Here's what I've been loving this past month.
//

Makeup

  • Avon Blush in Pink & Blush brush. I've been applying it with this new brush (which doesn't have a name or number or anything) and it gives me a natural, healthy glow.
  • Oriflame Lip gloss in Feel the Love. I've got to admit, I only bought this because I loved the packaging. I've never been much of a fan of lip glosses, but this one isn't overly sticky and gives a nice red tint to my lips that stays for a few hours without disappearing.
  • Etienne Super Longwear Waterproof Eye Liner in Very Black. This month I've been loving lining my bottom waterline with black, even though it inevitably ends up smudging and/or fading by the end of the day. Having said that, this is the eye liner that lasts longer for me, out of the few that I have.

Nails

  • China Glaze in For Audrey. I bought this color over a year ago, and I can safely say that it is my favorite shade I own - which is quite a feat, considering that I have over 50 polishes. There's just something about this Tiffany-inspired color that makes me happy whenever I have it on my nails.

Body

  • Snow Fairy Shower Gel from Lush. I got this on June of last year - my local Lush had a few of them in stock mid-season and I rushed to get it! At first the scent seemed a bit too sweet, but I've grown to like it with time.
  • Bodycology Enchanted Forest Body Cream. I really liked the scent of this - it's described as the "blend of jasmine, nutmeg and musk". It was a good consistency - not too liquidy, but not too hard to work on the skin.

Skin Care

  • Bioré Cleansing Strips. My local supermarket started stocking these this month, and I've been using them once a week. There's just something so satisfying about peeling these off!

What were your last month's favorites?

Most Worn Summer Things Tag

Summer is coming to an end here in the Southern Hemisphere, meaning that it's time to go back to university and become a responsible adult once again. Needless to say, I don't want to go back!
****

1. Most Worn Nail Polish

I bought this right before Christmas and it's quickly become a favorite. I'm a nail polish junkie, so it's hard for me to repeat colors, but I found myself reaching for this one more than a few times these past months!

2. Most Worn Scent

Amor Amor by Cacharel was hands down my most worn perfume. I'm rubbish at describing scents, so I'm going to borrow the description from The Perfume Shop: "a sparkling fruity floral, with an original mix of mandarin, melati jasmine, sandalwood and musk". I find it the perfect summer scent - it makes you smell nice, but it's not too overpowering.
****

3. Most Worn Hair Product.

I don't wear much product of my hair, much less on summer. But the days when I let my naturally curly hair air dry, I used some generous amounts of the Avon Advance Techniques Volume Control lotion.
****

4. Most Worn Bag

I got this Zara bag more than a year ago, but I really used it a lot during these past few months - the color just screams summer, doesn't it?
****

5. Most Worn Shoes

My mom bought me these gladiator-type sandals a few years ago as a present, and they're still going strong!
****
Mi mamá me regaló estas sandalias hace unos años y todavía siguen vivas!

6. Most Worn Accessory

This ring came in a pack of ten that I bough from ASOS, and it quickly became my most used one of the summer. I have a thing for rings (which is demonstrated on the full box of them that I have).
****

7. Most Worn Clothing Item

This top is from Zara - I usually wear it with a cami underneath (it's really sheer) and loosely tucked inside some high-waisted shorts. Perfect summer outfit!
****

8. Most Worn Foundation

Fact about me - I don't wear foundation. I've never even tried on some! I used to just wear concealer on problematic areas and leave the rest of the skin bare. But with the BB craze that's been going on in the last year, I caved and tried the Maybelline one, and I've been using it ever since.
****

9. Most Worn Blush/Bronzer

I  had wanted this lip and cheek pot (in the color Peach Punk) ever since I saw the collection, but it was sold out! I actually found this one while I was on vacation - I use it much more as a blush than a lip balm.
****

10. Most Worn Lip Product

My favorite lip product of the whole summer was Avon's Ultra Color Rich lipstick in the color Soft Pink. It gives my lips a hint of color while keeping it fairly natural - I don't like to wear statement lips on summer.
****

11. Most Worn Mascara

As much as it's been raved about, I don't like this mascara, only because of the fact that it gives me panda eyes! It doesn't smudge as much as other ones I've tried, but I've yet to find my holy grail mascara.
****

12. Most Worn Eyeshadow

I'm going to cheat a bit and name an eyeshadow quad! It is the Avon True Color Eyeshadow Quad in the color Illusion. I believe this was a spring limited edition, but I'm not sure. I haven't tried other Avon eyeshadows, but these wear fairly well without primer.
****

How was your summer? Or are you looking forward to it?

¿Cómo pasaron su verano? ¿O esperan con ansias su llegada?
