Vacation Beauty Haul

Revlon Lip Butters in Red Velvet and Strawberry Shortcake - CoverGirl LipPerfection Lipstick in 305 Hot Passion

The supermarkets at the Dominican Republic have a lot more makeup stands than most department stores here (CoverGirl? Milani? A whole stand of Revlon? Count me in!) Needless to say, I went a bit crazy and had to be restrained not to buy everything in sight. And I know I'm late to the lip butter bandwagon, but here they're ridiculously expensive and only four colours are available.

OPI Nail Polish in Do You Lilac It?

Rubinesque Paintpot - MAC 217 Blending Brush - Rebel Lipglass -MAC Cleanse Off Oil

And last but certainly not least, I did some damage at MAC. Now, this is more than I've ever spent in makeup, but I justified it because MAC is ridiculously expensive here and in the DR the prices were as near as the US ones that I could get. I actually wanted to get Rebel in lipstick form, but the lady at the counter said that they hadn't been stocking that for a long time.

Do you tend to spend more money on things for yourself when you're on holiday? (I know I do!)

My Travel Makeup Bag - Caribbean Edition

So I just came back from my two week vacation. I went to the Dominican Republic to visit my parents - we moved there 10 years ago because my dad got a job there, and 5 years ago I came back to Chile to study and hadn't been back since.

Now, even though I went in the middle of "winter" it was still horrendously hot, so that's what I kept in mind as chose what to bring with me to the trip.

What I brought with me:

-Lancôme Quad
-MAC Studio Finish Concealer in NW20
-L'Oreal Mega Volume Collagene Waterproof Mascara
-ELF Eyelid Primer
-Essence Eyebrow Designer in 02 Brown
-Esika Kohl Eyeliner in Turquesa Vital
-Arens Blush

-Cyzone Clear Gel
-Esika Colorfix Maxtime Lipstick in Fuscia Express
-Lip Out Loud Super Shiny Gloss in 04 BFF
-Avon ColorTrend Lip Crayon in Rojo Sexy
-Oriflame Lipgloss in Feel the Love

Tools:
-Four brushes: one eyeshadow brush, another one for concealer, one for bronzer and one for blush.
-Eyelash curler
-Pencil sharpener

What I wish I'd brought:

- Some powder. My Rimmel translucent powder is too flimsy and that I don't think it would've survived the trip.
- A perfume, which I didn't pack because I thought my luggage was going to be over the weight limit.
- Less lip colours. I barely wore anything on my lips other than my lip balm, so those were a waste of space.

Overall, I was please with the majority of the stuff that I took, except for a few items.
Are you going on holiday sometime soon? Where?

UK Wishlist

I'm so so sorry for not updating. Between the last months of the semester, exams, Christmas, and the internship that I just started, I haven't been able to do much other than keeping the house relatively clean and sleeping.
I've never been one for New Year's Resolutions, but I'll try and get back into the blogging mindset. And now, onto the post.
So a friend of mine is going to what it's pretty much my dream trip - London, Paris and Rome for three weeks. She'll spend most of the time in London, so that means that I'm sending her straight into Boots and Superdrug and Topshop and getting me some British drugstore/high street beauty favourites that I've seen nearly every blogger rave and that I've always wanted to try.

1. Collection 2000 Lasting Perfection Concealer in Light.
2. Sleek Blush in Flushed.
3. Soap & Glory Flake Away Body Scrub.
4.. Topshop Nail Polish in Pool Party.
5. MUA Eyeshadow Palette in Undressed.
6. Rimmel Stay Matte Pressed Powder in Transparent.

What do you think I'm missing? What are some of your favorite products that you can only get in the UK or are hard to get hold of outside of the UK?

Mask of Magnaminty

I have seen the future, and in it, my entire skincare routine consists of Lush products. And my wallet isn't very happy about it. I've seriously been loving Lush stuff these past months, starting when I got Grease Lightening. But now I've come to rave about another skincare product that actually gets a lot of love online - the Mask of Magnaminty.

A friend of mine actually bought it, and gave me about two or three masks worth. Before I started using it I used to get really big pimples that generally left horrible scars, but ever since the first use I've been amazed at how clear my skin has been. So when I realized that I didn't have much left from what my friend gave me, I rushed to Lush and bought my own pot. It doesn't come cheap (here it was $5.900 Chilean pesos, about $12 US dollars, for the small pot of 4.4 oz), but I think it's worth it.

Since it's not one of their fresh masks, this one lasts up to four months, and you really don't need a lot to cover your whole face. I usually leave it one for about 15 minutes and then gently rub it before taking it off in the shower.
The only thing I don't really like is the smell - at first I thought it had gone bad (I even asked my friend if it was near the expiration date), but I ended up getting used to it after the second use.

My Nail Saviours

As a nail polish junkie, I used to do a really bad thing - I took off my nail polish with my nails, which only resulted in horribly uneven and fickle nails. Needless to say, nail polish chipped off immediately and my nails broke constantly. One day I decided enough was enough, and bought Growth Spurt at a local nail salon. After putting on a coat or two every two days for about a week I saw a lot of improvement, and so it became a staple of mine - I use it as a base coat every time I change my polish, which is every week now. It's lasted me a long time considering how much I use it, and I think I'll be repurchasing it when it's finished - it's a great product at a great price (here in Chile it's considerably cheaper than the OPI version).

The reason why I scratched off my polish in the first place was because my nail polish removers always left my fingers dry after I used it. Enter this funny-looking bottle: FYO is acetone free, and it also has keratin and almond oil to keep your fingers hydrated. After ten minutes of  trying to figure out how to use it (you turn the top part counter-clockwise and then you pump out the product into a cotton pad) I was marvelled - it took off polish quickly and it didn't dry out my fingers. I've already used half of it and I will be repurchasing after I finish it.

And that's it! What are your staple nail products?

//

Empties No.1

I have so much stuff piled up that I'm going to split these into two posts! So here's the first batch of products that I've used up:

- Bodycology White Gardenia Shower Gel & Foaming Bath. I really liked the scent of this, but it didn't lather that much.
Repurchase? If it were on sale, I would.

- Whoosh Shower Jelly. The concept of a shower jelly baffled me a bit at first, but after you get used to it and learn to take small amounts so that it doesn't slip and fall all over the tub, I fell in love with it.
Repurchase? Yes, already did!

- L'Oreal Pure Zone Toner. I really didn't like this - I didn't think it did anything for my skin and the scent was so strong it made my eyes water.
Repurchase? No!

- Garnier Skin Naturals Day Moisturizer. I didn't like this one either - it left a weird residue after putting it on.
Repurchase? Nope.

- Neutrogena Oil-Free Makeup Remover. This was a terrible makeup remover. As a waterproof mascara user I've been searching for a good makeup remover, and this is not it! It never fully took off my mascara - I always woke up the next day with panda eyes, no matter how many soaked cotton pads I used.
Repurchase? No!

- MAC Pro Longwear Concealer in NC30. It had good coverage and was moisturizing enough, but I still didn't love it enough to make it my holy grail concealer.
Repurchase? Maybe someday.

- Cala Aloe Vera Make-up Cleansing Tissues. I wasn't really impressed with the way they removed my makeup, plus they sometimes felt like I was cleaning my skin with sandpaper.
Repurchase? No.

Have you used any of these products? Don't you hate having to pile up empty stuff for these kinds of posts?

Cyzone 'Acqua' Nail Polish Review

Even though it's still technically winter here, we've had more sunshine-filled days than rainy ones, making it the perfect opportunity to start wearing those pastel nail polishes that I love so much.

I've been searching for the perfect mint colour for quite a while now. For some reason I have a feeling I would stop searching if I tried Essie's 'Mint Candy Apple', but the shop that stocks the brand here has never ordered it, so I'm still looking.

What I like about Cyzone's Acqua nail polish is that depending on the light, it can either look like a soft blue (like in the picture above) or much more greener, like in the following picture. The consistency is just perfect - it's not too thick, but it's not too runny, and it lasted about four days without chipping on my very-prone-to-chipping nails (seriously, nail polish barely lasts me a day). The only downsides are that it's a tiny bottle (it's only 5 ml) and that you can only get it every few months, as it doesn't appear very regularly in the Cyzone magazine. So I'd definitely recommend ordering it when you see it!

What nail polishes have you been loving this month?

****

He estado buscando el color menta perfecto hace bastante tiempo.

Grease Lightening Review

I'm so so so so so sorry for not updating! I'd love to say that it's been because I've been in exams like everybody else, but the sad truth is that I still have a few weeks to go of classes before even starting my exams. Anyways (enough complaining), a few days (more like a week) ago, I got a volcano of a pimple on the right side of my chin that just wouldn't go away, no matter how much I squeezed and put toothpaste on it. Enter Grease Lightening, which I bought after reading pretty much all the reviews I could find online.

This thing is seriously god sent if you have oily skin, because not only it acts as a blemish treatment, but also controls the oiliness if you apply a thin layer to your face. I use it only at night, after cleansing. The pesky zit is still there, but it's almost invisible - I'm very prone to scarring, so the fact that it's dissappearing without leaving a massive scar is well worth the price, at least for me. Here in Chile it's $8.200 chilean pesos (about US$16), but I find that a pump will be enough to cover my whole face, so it will last you for a while.

Do you have a favorite product from Lush? Which one?

//

April Beauty Favorites

I thought I was going to say every month "how fast time flies", but not today. Between having multiple essays, tests, and quizzes (sometimes even two every day of a certain week) April couldn't go slower for me and I'm glad it's over!
Now onto the miracle products that made me look decent enough to walk around in public while I felt like a zombie:

1. Essence Multi Action Waterproof  Mascara. I actually have a love and hate relationship with this one, but the past week it's been good and hasn't smudged on me, so I'll include it here. Some days it makes me look like a panda, other days nothing happens, and I don't really know why it works differently for me some days if I'm doing the same thing and using the same products. I guess I'll never know.

2. MAC Studio Finish Concealer in NW20. I can't live without concealer, and this covers up my dark circles almost perfectly. It can settle into the fine lines sometimes, but that's only happened to me a few times and it's nothing a swipe of your finger can't remedy!

3. Estée Lauder Signature Eyeshadow Duo in 02 Cappuccino. I didn't even wear eyeshadow for about half of the month, but these past weeks I've been reaching for this duo - I used the lighter color in the entire lid and the brown in the crease and I'm ready to go.

4. Leblon Lip Treatment. I haven't been wearing much lipstick either - I just always forget about it! I've always used this - my lips are so dry I need to have the medicated stuff!

5. Nivea Mattifying Toner. Ever since I started using this I've noticed my skin isn't as oily as it used to be, specially in the mornings.

6. Whoosh by Lush. I love Whoosh! It's required in my university to go to the gym twice a week, and I find this is the perfect pick-me-up scent after a grueling session at the machines!

7.  Herbal Essences Paralísalos Conditioner. I didn't really believe in the claim that this product made (to actually straighten your hair) but it actually works! Of course it doesn't leave my hair like I'd just straightened it, but it makes my curls look more like waves and it even makes some locks of hair almost straight.

Have you tried any of these products? What have you been loving this month?

Also, don't forget to follow TheTotalOpposite on Instagram!

//

4. Ungüento Labial Leblon. Tampoco he estado usando mucho labial - siempre se me olvida! Siempre he usado éste - mis labios son tan secos que necesito algo medicado.

Maybelline Color Show Nail Polishes Review

Hi everyone! Today I have for you my first beauty review. Maybelline's Color Show Collection has finally reached Chile and I couldn't help but pick up a few colors I had had my eye on for quite a while.

First up is Fierce N Tangy, a bright sunshine yellow. This was the first color I picked - it's just looks gorgeous! Sadly, on the nails it doesn't look as great. I have a lot of nail polish, and this was the first time I encountered such a weird formula. It was streaky, and it tended to 'group' and leave some parts of the nail uncovered in the first layer. It took me three coats to achieve an opaque look, but it still looks streaky on some nails.

The other polish I got was Green With Envy. This one is definitely the best one of the two. It was nearly opaque in one coat, and not at all streaky! I ended up doing two coats to even out the color, but you could get away with just one if you were in a hurry. I'm in love with mint polishes at the moment, even thought it's fall here and technically mint is sort of a spring/summer color but I don't care!

I won't comment on the wear of these polishes as my nails have always been really weak and polish doesn't last me a day without chipping, so I'm not the best person to review that.

Overall, I'm torn - Fierce N Tangy isn't the best polish I've encountered, while Green With Envy is one of the best pastel polishes I've had, so I guess it all depends on the individual color.

What do you think? Have you tried the Maybelline Color Show range?

Also, I now have an Instagram! My username is TheTotalOpposite if you'd like to follow me :)

//

Hola!

Collective Haul

This post actually started as a mini haul, and I don't really know what happened along the way but after various days running around errands and shopping for a friend's birthday, I ended up with all of this:

|1| Essence Nail Polish in Let's Get Lost. As much as I tried to, the true color of this polish just won't photograph! In real life it's like an electric blue, and once it's on your nails it looks different depending of how much light there is and if it's artificial or not.
|2| MAC Studio Finish Concealer in NW20. This is the reason I even went shopping in the first place, and it was supposedly the only thing I was going to buy. I can't live without a thick concealer, and this has had great reviews, so I'm excited to try it!
|3| Essence Multi Action Waterproof  Mascara. I'm always on the hunt for a mascara that doesn't smudge (still no luck) and picked this on a whim.
|4| Rimmel Scandaleyes Waterproof Eyeliner in Black. Along with my never-ending quest of mascara that doesn't smudge, I'm also always looking for black eyeliner that I can put on my waterline and won't make me look like a panda. Let's hope this one's a winner!Casa&Ideas Eyelash Curler and Sharpener. Casa&Ideas always has cute tools, and these are no exception! Plus, they were on sale :P
|5 & 6| Rimmel Apocalips in Big Bang and Nova. These just arrived from trusty old ASOS (I'm not sure, but I don't think I've ever seen a place where they sell Rimmel here in Chile), and I've heard such great reviews that I can't wait to wear them.
|7| Casa&Ideas Eyelash Curler and Sharpener. Casa&Ideas always has cute tools, and these are no exception! Plus, they were on sale :P

|8| Nivea Mattifying Toner. I ran out of most of my skincare stuff, so I had to go and buy most of it back. My old toner wasn't really working for me, so after glancing around the (almost nonexistent) variety of toners that my local supermarket had, I went for the only one that I hadn't tried!
|9| Neutrogena Oil Free Clear Wash Exfoliant. I had been eying this one for quite a while, but I wanted to finish up my Avon exfoliant first (empties post coming soon!). I have the cleanser version and I love it!
|10| Neutrogena Deep Clean Cleanser. I actually didn't need a cleanser, but when I saw this was a lotion I bought it anyway. I don't have hot water on my sink, so those cleansers that you need to wash off don't work for me when it's nighttime and I don't take a shower.

|11| Slippers. I found these in Lider (the Chilean equivalent of Walmart). They just looked so cute and cozy that I had to buy them! I didn't think they would be very warm, but I was pleasantly surprised by how well-heated they keep your feet.
|12| TodoModa Ring. I went in to find a present for a friend and ended up buying some stuff for me as well, oops! It was on sale as well.
|13| TodoModa Bracelet. I'm in love with studs at the moment! I had been looking for a bracelet like this and finally found it. And at a really cheap price too!
|14| Foster Leggings. I have another pair of these in a darker wash and I live in them. Paris (a department store here in Chile) had a 40% off coupon if you were fans of them on Facebook, so I went directly to pick up another pair of these.
|15| Paris Je t'aime Tote Bag. It was near the checkout at Paris (the store) and I couldn't resist!

|16| Papelería Pencil Case. It's got the map of Paris over it! I had to buy it even though it was a bit expensive, and justified it by saying that it was because "I deserved it".
|17| Essence Makeup Bag. It had the Eiffel Tower. Enough said.

And that's it! Now I'm off to rehearse my monologue for my test tomorrow. What have you bought recently?

*****

Belleza

|1| Esmalte Essence en Let's Get Lost.
|3| Essence Multi Action Waterproof  Mascara.
|5 & 6| Rimmel Apocalips in Big Bang and Nova.

No necesita explicación.

Y eso sería todo! ¿Qué han comprado últimamente?

March Beauty Favorites

This will be a small post, as I don't have a lot of beauty stuff to post about! I guess I've taken a more minimal approach (or rather, a more time-restrained approach) on makeup this month now that I've gone back to uni...long hours there and little time to get ready don't give for a lot of beauty favorites! //

1. Model's Own Lip & Cheek Tint. I only wear this as a lip tint - as much as I tried, it just didn't blend well with my cheeks! That said, I love this as a lip tint. Let's just say reapplying my lip gloss isn't a priority when you're running around from class to class - I put it on in the mornings and don't have to reapply throughout the day. //

2. Lubriderm Extra Moisturizing Cream. My hands have been so dry to the point that my knuckles were cracked, and I don't know why (it's not like it was winter in here!). I used to use the Nivea SOS Repair, but even that wasn't helping. Luckily, my nanny came in to the rescue, and told me to try the Lubriderm Extra Moisturizing Cream and I immediately noticed a difference - my knuckles look normal now! //

3. Essence Eyebrow Designer in 02. Brown. I featured this on my last post (a mini Easter haul) and I really love the difference it makes in my eyebrows - full eyebrows really make you need less makeup. //

4. Garnier Caffeine Eye Rollon. Change of season and I get allergies, so my eyes have been drier than usual. I love the soothing cooling sensation after I put in on. //

5. Cyzone Big-n-Eacy Jumbo Eyeshadow Pencils in (from left to right) Cymply Lily, Cracy Brunette and Fancy Green. This is all I've been wearing in my eyes this month. I use the pale lilac as a subtle highlighter, the green as a light wash of color all over the lid and along the waterline, and some of the brown in the crease to give some definition. //

So those are my March favorites! What have you been loving this month? //
Y esos son mis favoritos de Marzo! Qué has estado amando este mes?

Mini Easter Haul

I haven't really gone shopping this past month - damn university that drains all my time! I did manage to squeeze in a small grocery trip and bought some stuff. //

1.  Herbal Essences Paralísalos Conditioner. I looked in the USA website and found that they didn't really have something like it - it's a conditioner that supposedly makes your hair straighter. I haven't tried it yet, but if I notice a difference I'll let you know! //

2. Essence Eyebrow Designer in 02. Brown. I've always had pretty full eyebrows, but for some reason they've kinda lost some hairs at the ends, so I bought this to fill them in. It's a bit lighter than my eyebrows, but once you blend it in you don't really notice a difference. //

3. Cala Aloe Vera Makeup Cleansing Tissues. I needed some makeup wipes, and these were the cheapest ones. And that's about all the thought that went into buying these, haha.//

4. Growth Spurt Nail Treatment. I was actually looking for the OPI version of this, but it was too damn expensive (nearly 20 US dollars), so I settled for this one. According to the saleslady it's really good, so we'll see! //

5. Essence Eye Makeup Remover. This claims to take off waterproof mascara without tugging, but I still haven't tried it, as I'm still trying to finish my Neutrogena Waterproof Makeup Remover (which is terrible!). //
6. And last, but certainly not least, Carezza Mini Eggs. These are SO GOOD! They have a soft chocolate with almonds interior that's really decadent. I bought a tray for myself (ehehe) and another for my nephews. //

And that's about it! What have you bought recently? //
Y eso sería! Qué han comprado recientemente?

February Favorites

I swear, February went by so fast! Those days less really make a difference. Here's what I've been loving this past month.
//

Makeup

  • Avon Blush in Pink & Blush brush. I've been applying it with this new brush (which doesn't have a name or number or anything) and it gives me a natural, healthy glow.
  • Oriflame Lip gloss in Feel the Love. I've got to admit, I only bought this because I loved the packaging. I've never been much of a fan of lip glosses, but this one isn't overly sticky and gives a nice red tint to my lips that stays for a few hours without disappearing.
  • Etienne Super Longwear Waterproof Eye Liner in Very Black. This month I've been loving lining my bottom waterline with black, even though it inevitably ends up smudging and/or fading by the end of the day. Having said that, this is the eye liner that lasts longer for me, out of the few that I have.

Nails

  • China Glaze in For Audrey. I bought this color over a year ago, and I can safely say that it is my favorite shade I own - which is quite a feat, considering that I have over 50 polishes. There's just something about this Tiffany-inspired color that makes me happy whenever I have it on my nails.

Body

  • Snow Fairy Shower Gel from Lush. I got this on June of last year - my local Lush had a few of them in stock mid-season and I rushed to get it! At first the scent seemed a bit too sweet, but I've grown to like it with time.
  • Bodycology Enchanted Forest Body Cream. I really liked the scent of this - it's described as the "blend of jasmine, nutmeg and musk". It was a good consistency - not too liquidy, but not too hard to work on the skin.

Skin Care

  • Bioré Cleansing Strips. My local supermarket started stocking these this month, and I've been using them once a week. There's just something so satisfying about peeling these off!

Most Worn Summer Things Tag

Summer is coming to an end here in the Southern Hemisphere, meaning that it's time to go back to university and become a responsible adult once again. Needless to say, I don't want to go back!
****

1. Most Worn Nail Polish

I bought this right before Christmas and it's quickly become a favorite. I'm a nail polish junkie, so it's hard for me to repeat colors, but I found myself reaching for this one more than a few times these past months!
****

2. Most Worn Scent

Amor Amor by Cacharel was hands down my most worn perfume. I'm rubbish at describing scents, so I'm going to borrow the description from The Perfume Shop: "a sparkling fruity floral, with an original mix of mandarin, melati jasmine, sandalwood and musk". I find it the perfect summer scent - it makes you smell nice, but it's not too overpowering.
****

3. Most Worn Hair Product.

I don't wear much product of my hair, much less on summer. But the days when I let my naturally curly hair air dry, I used some generous amounts of the Avon Advance Techniques Volume Control lotion.
****

4. Most Worn Bag

I got this Zara bag more than a year ago, but I really used it a lot during these past few months - the color just screams summer, doesn't it?
****

5. Most Worn Shoes

My mom bought me these gladiator-type sandals a few years ago as a present, and they're still going strong!
****
Mi mamá me regaló estas sandalias hace unos años y todavía siguen vivas!

6. Most Worn Accessory

This ring came in a pack of ten that I bough from ASOS, and it quickly became my most used one of the summer. I have a thing for rings (which is demonstrated on the full box of them that I have).
****

7. Most Worn Clothing Item

This top is from Zara - I usually wear it with a cami underneath (it's really sheer) and loosely tucked inside some high-waisted shorts. Perfect summer outfit!
****

8. Most Worn Foundation

Fact about me - I don't wear foundation. I've never even tried on some! I used to just wear concealer on problematic areas and leave the rest of the skin bare. But with the BB craze that's been going on in the last year, I caved and tried the Maybelline one, and I've been using it ever since.
****

9. Most Worn Blush/Bronzer

I  had wanted this lip and cheek pot (in the color Peach Punk) ever since I saw the collection, but it was sold out! I actually found this one while I was on vacation - I use it much more as a blush than a lip balm.
****

10. Most Worn Lip Product

My favorite lip product of the whole summer was Avon's Ultra Color Rich lipstick in the color Soft Pink. It gives my lips a hint of color while keeping it fairly natural - I don't like to wear statement lips on summer.
****

11. Most Worn Mascara

As much as it's been raved about, I don't like this mascara, only because of the fact that it gives me panda eyes! It doesn't smudge as much as other ones I've tried, but I've yet to find my holy grail mascara.
****

12. Most Worn Eyeshadow

I'm going to cheat a bit and name an eyeshadow quad! It is the Avon True Color Eyeshadow Quad in the color Illusion. I believe this was a spring limited edition, but I'm not sure. I haven't tried other Avon eyeshadows, but these wear fairly well without primer.
****

How was your summer? Or are you looking forward to it?

¿Cómo pasaron su verano? ¿O esperan con ansias su llegada?
